The Night Watches

Job 35:10: But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;

Psalms 1:1: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Psalms 63:5: My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: 6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.

Psalms 119:148: Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

Lamentations 2:19: Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that faint for hunger in the top of every street.

Before and for a time after I was saved, I used to be irritated when I would wake up at night. But now those are some of the most wonderful times of my life. They are uninterrupted times when I am alone with my Heavenly Father with no distractions. I was delighted when I found this passage:

Psalms 127:2b: . . . he giveth his beloved sleep.

When I spend some time alone with the Lord at night He always rewards me for it. I either sleep later or have a nap later. I am one of His beloved ones and He gives me sleep. And, of course, He rewards time I spend with Him during the day too.

Psalms 31:15: My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

Psalms 69:13: But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.

Isaiah 49:8: Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;

We never get a busy signal from the Lord. We give Him busy signals when we ignore Him and when we are busy sinning. Are we wise enough to plan and prepare many times and places where He can be with us? Read also John 14:15-17, Hebrews 13:5 and John 14:2-3.
